Upon entering the Seagrass Home store, you feel a sense of tranquility. A more relaxed version of yourself feels as though you have entered a summer cottage, just off the coast of the Atlantic. Seagrass Home is an East Coast oasis on the North Shore.

Since opening its doors in 2004, Seagrass Home has been a staple of the Winnetka community and owner, Maria Smith, was the woman with the vision. Passionate about coastal living, Maria invites customers to enjoy visionary and luxurious home furnishings inspired from shoreline aesthetics and infused with comfortable yet modern design.

Maria draws upon coastal themes that have surrounded her throughout life. She is inspired by both the East and West coasts and Italian shores which made for an easy transition when she moved to the Chicagoland area more than twenty years ago. “Lake Michigan is now my central coast,” she explains. “I felt an instant bond to the Midwest. And this body of water allowed me to relate a little bit more to this area.”

If it is custom design you want, Seagrass can do it for free. “No job is too big or too little,” Maria states. “We’re here to help.” They have a design team that can come to your house and help with any and all design questions and concerns you may have, they offer smart and family friendly design. “For me, it makes me feel like I’m closer to nature. I think it’s a nice compliment to any style of home décor,” Maria adds. You will love the one on one experience of having your home customized for you by Seagrass.

If you are eco-friendly, you will appreciate the efforts Maria makes to buy so many of these products made from recycled and natural materials. She also sells work of local artists in her shop. She stresses the importance of community and tries to buy pieces made exclusively in the United States.
